Saige Monastery

Saige Monastery is the largest Gelugpa monastery in the entire Tibetan region, located on the eastern side of Aba County. While many monasteries gradually declined after the Gelugpa founder, Tsongkhapa, converted the Jonangpa sect, Saige Monastery not only survived but thrived. The monastery is renowned for its mystical religious practices, such as Tibetan esoteric yoga. The Butter Lamp Festival held at this monastery is particularly famous, making it the ideal destination for studying and exploring the Jonangpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
